STRATEGY

Integrated Support for Families

We provide support and guidance to low-income families though early childhood education and comprehensive enrichment programs for the entire family.

Poverty in Oklahoma

More than 1 in 3 children under the age of five lives in poverty in Tulsa County.

CAP Tulsa is working to ensure that these children reach their full developmental potential by the end of third grade.

CAP Tulsa children with two or more years of high-quality early childhood education perform better in school and have parents who are more involved.

CAP Tulsa partners with the University of Oklahoma Early Childhood Education Institute to understand the achievement of children enrolled in our program and has found that:

  • The average 4-year old at CAP Tulsa is experiencing more growth in mathematics and expressive language than children observed in the FACES (2014) study.
  • The average 3-year old at CAP Tulsa is experiencing more growth in literacy and expressive language than children observed in the FACES (2014) study.

A 2016 Georgetown University study found: Enduring positive effects for CAP Tulsa children enrolled in the program in 2005 persisted through middle school compared to children not enrolled at CAP Tulsa. The study found that CAP Tulsa participants:

  • Scored significantly higher on the state math achievement test in middle school
  • Demonstrated significantly lower rates of grade retention
  • Were significantly less likely to be chronically absent

  • Measuring Our Impact

CAP Tulsa’s strategic vision is that all children served by CAP Tulsa reach their full developmental potential by the end of third grade. We prioritize measuring the impact of our program. Specifically, we have a designated team who partners with a local university to design and implement an evaluation of our early childhood program.
