COVID-19 Policy / Guidance
Regardless of the type of illness, children must be kept out of school when they are sick, especially if the child is running a fever.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated their COVID-19 guidance to help people better understand how to respond to exposure to the virus and actions to take when they get a positive test. We recommend all families review these new guidelines to help determine the best ways to remain safe and healthy.
CAP Tulsa has a COVID-19 Mitigation Policy in place to meet Final Rule Requirements published in January 2023 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Any updates related to COVID-19 policies, changing conditions, or other pertinent information that might impact CAP Tulsa's operations or practices will be posted here.
The following processes are in effect as of September 19, 2022, for CAP Tulsa children and families:
Exposure to COVID-19
- We will no longer call families for contact tracing due to exposure to COVID-19
- Children that have been exposed to COVID-19 will no longer be required to quarantine
- Children over the age of two that have been exposed should wear a mask for 10 days and be tested for COVID-19 on day 5 - Check with your healthcare provider or the Tulsa Health Department for testing information: Testing | Tulsa Health Department (tulsa-health.org)
Positive COVID-19 Test
- Families must notify the school if an enrolled child tests positive for COVID-19
- Children that test positive must isolate for at least 10 days and may not return to school until they are fever-free without medication AND have no symptoms or improving symptoms
Families with “at-risk” children should share our processes with
their child’s doctors to help them determine if their children should be
kept home from school beyond 10 days after a positive test.
Attendance policies will be relaxed to help support families that may
need to make these decisions for at-risk children.
If your child
is currently quarantined due to exposure, you will be directly contacted
with more information regarding your child’s return to school.
We
also want to remind families that regardless of the type of illness,
children must be kept out of school when they are sick, especially if
the child is running a fever.
To protect against serious
illness, it is important for families to stay up to date on
vaccinations. Everyone over the age of six months old is eligible to
receive a COVID-19 vaccine which protects children and adults from
serious illness, hospitalization, and death. Check with your healthcare
provider or the Tulsa Health Department for information on getting
vaccinated: COVID-19 Vaccine | Tulsa Health Department (tulsa-health.org)
While
COVID-19 has not gone away, it is moving to a new phase where we will
need to react as we do to viruses like the flu and make the best choices
we can for the health and safety of our employees, children, and
families. We will continue to monitor community levels and guidance from
the CDC, Tulsa Health Department, and the Office of Head Start, and
will let you know as quickly as possible should we need to make changes
to our processes. If you have any questions, please contact the School
Leader.
