Sort and CountOctober 24, 2017
Sorting, classifying and counting objects with your preschooler at home is important for them to grasp basic math concepts at an early age. You can make this a part of your everyday routine!
During clean-up at home, ask your child to sort all of the red toys and all of the blue toys and then have them count how many of each they have as they put them away. You can even sort by the shape of toy or how the toy feels (hard, soft, etc.). You can sort and classify clothing together as you do the laundry or visit the laundromat or even food as you cook or unload groceries.
When talking to your child ask them how certain objects are alike or different, or which is smaller and which is bigger.
This is a great way to have a conversation with your child while also helping them to understand the characteristics of the world around them!
