Be Scientists Together!
May 29, 2018Babies and young children can begin to learn the basic concepts of S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math) the more you talk to them about it.
Help your baby learn about the world by observing things together. Science involves lots of observing, recording and predicting. Talk to your baby about what you see at the store, what different things are happening outside and the different colors you see all around you. When you share an observation you are helping them hear new words as well.
When talking to your toddler, talk like scientists together! While you’re at the grocery store, ask them which fruits are heavier or lighter. Ask them to find different colors of fruit and talk about their shapes. You can even compare different amounts and the difference between wholes and halves while eating. Discuss what will happen to a piece of fruit when you cut it in half.
Talking about these things together will help them to become critical thinkers!
